A Global Vision The Fit For Life Forever seminar programme is already translated into French and Italian! The course is currently being trialled in Canada, Mauritius and the Philippines and is scheduled may be introducd in Italy in 2007. Fit For Life Forever for Developing Countries When it comes to food, we, in the West, have traditionally thought of Third World countries as having problems of insufficient food and malnutrition, not obesity and weight-related health problems. But although hunger and famine still remains severe in certain parts of the world, many other countries are now beginning to mirror the negative health trends of the Western World. The causes of this are partly cultural and partly due to Western influences. On the one hand we see many traditional diets high in salt and saturated fat, but now the introduction of Fast Food restaurants, Ready Meals and soft drinks, which are high in refined sugar, are adding to the problem and creating conditions, especially in the towns and cities, where heart disease and type II diabetes are rapidly rising. There is also an association, in many parts of the Developing World, between perceived wealth and being obese – the larger you are, the more prosperous you must be! This makes obesity almost a thing to be desired! Whilst many governments are actively seeking to educate their people about issues of health and nutrition, practical material often remains scarce and myths about food abound. A Filipino gentleman I spoke with recently told me that he had heard that if you drink Coca-Cola it will offset the bad effects of eating too much fat! Talk about adding insult to injury! And now, as obesity rises to an all-time high, fad diets and toning devises are making their inroads through the advertising media, making impossible promises to the gullible public. Fit For Life Forever's Missions Projects In 1990, as missionaries, my husband David and myself came alongside a fledgling indigenous church organisation in Andhra Pradesh, Southern India called HARVEST INDIA. Over the years we have been privileged to sponsor the development of a number of projects: Two orphanages, a Bible School, Home for elderly widows, primary care medical units and six acres of rice paddy! Today this organisation has exploded to more than 1,200 churches and is also held in high regard by the government for its extensive humanitarian programme. In September 2007, as a sponsor of Harvest India, Fit For Life Forever has been able to help meet two specific needs. Firstly a communal borewell has been supplied to provide clean water for a village and secondly an embroidery machine has been supplied to help ex-prostitutes on a rehabilitation programme to learn sewing skills and make an alternative living. (see photos below) ![]() On a larger scale we are aiming to raise the money to build a HIV/AIDS hospice right in the prostitution capital of Andhra Pradesh. Infected men often carry the virus back to their families in the villages. Once a person is diagnosed with Aids the whole family is rejected (through fear) and has to leave the village. Harvest India wants to reach these people with the love and power of Jesus Christ and to enable them both to be treated for their disease and to die with dignity. Weekly clinics are already held to give treatment, advise and food relief to several infected families. Through our prayer partners we have already been able to purchase the land and have raised enough money to build the foundations. But a further £150,000 is needed for the 100 bed building. Once completed, a Dutch sponsor has agreed to furnish and equip the hospice and, through Harvest India's Medical Training programme, all the medical staff is ready at hand. The Aids Hospice ![]() Can you help? If you or your church group would like to prayerfully consider donating directly to this project we would much appreciate any help you could give.
