God- the best weight watcher!

A few days ago I received this letter of testimony form a lady who is presently doing the course for the second time.  She writes:

“It is hard to know where to start. My biggest words are, I AM FREE. The whole concept of your amazing book and course…is simple. The best ‘weight watcher buddy’ is Jesus, and the love and support of such a special group of women that also love the way you encourage us to draw to Gods word for guidance, is the ONLY way. (I love the) eating in FREEDOM concept, and the knowledge…that it’s pointless feeding myself if I am not hungry.   It's so simple.”

I was so blessed that she said that Jesus was the best weight watcher! – Why had I never thought of that before?  So I’ve been meditating on this beautiful concept   of how the Holy Spirit will direct us in all our ways if we will let Him.  “Commit your way unto the Lord, “we read in Psalm 27 “and He will direct your paths.” It really is that simple (Did you notice that the writer above used the phrase ‘It’s so simple’ twice?)

Now some of you may be freaked out at the thought of God being your weight watcher. After all, you may be a secret binger and to be reminded that God sees what others don’t may be scary. But God has better things to do than to be forever spying on us, ready to slap us on the wrist every time we step out of line and eat something which isn’t bursting with nutrients or eat one mouthful over and above what our bodies need.  (Do I hear sighs of relief?) But He will, I believe, give us a gentle nudge when we are tempted to go over the top either through excessive eating or neglect of the nutrition which our body needs.  Sometimes I am aware of a still small voice which asks me, ‘Now do you really need that?’ and usually, if I am honest, the answer I must give is ‘No.’ Either there just happened to be more available, so it seemed a shame to pass it by, or I had wandered into the kitchen on another mission and found myself opening the fridge or cupboards in search of nothing in particular. Then I may have a thought along the lines of: ‘What are you doing here Elijah?’ and I realise that I’m straying down the path of old habits. As I remember that I have made Jesus the Lord of my relationship with food and am seeking daily to have a Spirit-controlled appetite I can  reach out and take hold of  the all-sufficient grace of God which will bring me back to my senses!

Yes, indeed, God being my weight-watcher has saved me from many a fall and He will do the same for you. He has watched over us throughout our lives and knows all about the situations which led us into a wrong relationship with food.  Now, by our invitation, He has sent the Holy Spirit to come along side us as a Comforter and Friend and He will lead us into the Truth which will ultimately set us free. He has given you His Word of promise and is watching over His Word to bring it to fruition in your life. Remember, then, that ‘His eye is on the sparrow – and I know He’s watching me!’
