Firm Foundation
Jesus once told a parable about two builders – one of them built on rock and the other on sand. The one built on sand collapsed when the storms came, but the one built on a firm foundation stood strong. Jesus said that the rock we needed to build on, if we didn’t want our life to fall to bits, was obedience to His Word.

I have had this parable brought home to me recently in a powerful way. When we moved into our new home last December, one of the things which attracted us to it was the conservatory.  We knew that the windows needed replacing, but shortly after we moved in and began to use the room we realised that the floor was sinking down beneath our feet in several places and that under the laminate surface it appeared quite damp. Not wanting to throw good money after bad we decided to replace the entire building.  As the old structure was demolished what we found was astonishing….

The ‘foundation’ for the building was just concrete paving slabs.  There were no dug foundations and no damp course. On top of this was a layer of chipboard which over the years, as it had dampened, had degraded to the point where worms were infesting it and turning the board into compost! It was totally friable in our hands. A carpet had been laid on top of the chipboard, but when this had become damp the owners, instead of dealing with the problem, had simply covered it with a thin polystyrene membrane and then laminated it! No wonder we had such problems.

If our foundations aren’t right, then whatever we attempt to build on top of it, isn’t going to last.  This is true for every aspect of our lives, but specifically, in relation to weight regulation, it has to do with lifestyle.  Will we adopt Biblical principles as our foundation, leading to a Spirit-controlled appetite, or will we instead opt for the world’s methods of crash dieting, calorie counting and constant weighing? Statistics show that for 98% of us diets don’t work as a long-term solution. They may produce quick short-term results (our old conservatory was erected quickly because foundations weren’t laid.) but the results don’t last.

Fit For Life Forever is a means of slimming from the inside out.  We insist that the right Biblical foundations are laid.  This involves firstly a right belief system, namely that:
1. I am God’s creation, totally unique, with my own perfect body size and weight which is just right for me.  This gives me SIGNIFICANCE
2. God loves me unconditionally, no matter what my shape or size.  This gives me SECURITY.
3. God wants me to have a healthy body (not obese) and to enjoy looking my best.  This gives me ASSURANCE.
4. God’s Word will help me to achieve my weight and health goals as I am obedient to its teaching.  This gives me a SENSE OF HOPE AND DIRECTION.

To become obedient to the Word means total submission of my eating behaviour to the Lordship of Christ, allowing Him to control my habits, thoughts and emotions and to heal my inner pain. As we are transformed by the renewing power of the Holy Spirit, we find that we do not need to turn to food in order to fix out fears, failures and frustrations, but we walk by FAITH.  God’s grace in our lives enables us to build with confidence.  The end result is a lifestyle in line with God’s Word.  We are freed from the bondage of dieting and can actually enjoy food once again.

So what foundation are you building your eating behaviour on? Get wise and start to build on God’s Word.  The Fit For Life Forever course is designed to help you do just that.
